A Memoir of Mercy (Memoirs of Life #2) by Jessiqua Wittman: Interview + Giveaway

A Memoir of Love (Memoirs of Life #1)
by Jessiqua Wittman

Genre: Christian, Post-apocalyptic

A post-apocalyptic world, an unlikely band of Revolutionaries, this is the memoir of their struggles and triumphs. A woman describes a refugee colony's dramatic rise to power. The governmental shift was bound to happen, the only question in the matter is who will be the leader of this new nation. Written in first person, this memoir provides an inside look at those whose lives are destined to become swallowed up and defined by political intrigue.

Great men and women go through all the same trials and temptations ordinary people go through; the stakes are just much higher because everybody is watching them.

Genre: Christian, Post-apocalyptic

Mercy is a girl who thinks she's a good girl, but really she's not.

Then she thinks that she's a bad girl, but really she's not.

Gradually she discovers who she really is, and the answer shocks everybody, especially her parents...

In the meantime, Mercy lives in a nation that thinks that it's a sturdy, well-seated nation, but really it's not.

Then the nation thinks that it's falling apart, but really it's not.

Gradually the nation discovers where it really stands, and that through the turmoil, it's only grown stronger.

Q & A with Jessiqua Wittman

Q:  Tell us a little bit about Mercy.
Mercy is a bouncy, happy-go-lucky young woman trying to find her way in a hard life. She’s been sheltered and raised in a good family, but now that she’s older, she’s curious about life outside the “castle”. Only when her identity is compromised does she find out who she really is.

Q:  As A Memoir of Mercy is the 2nd book in the Memoirs of Life series, is it mandatory that readers read A Memoir of Love (book 1) first, or can they be standalone novels?
A Memoir of Mercy is easily read standalone. It’s set 25 years after the first book in the series, and it holds its own quite well. (Or so new readers tell me).

Q:  What do you see as influences on your writing style?
I’ve read a wide variety of books, spanning several genres. I’m also an avid people-watcher that loves looking at the world around me with a raw, unfiltered perspective.

Q:  How long have you been writing, and when did you first consider yourself an author?
I’ve been writing since I was a young teenager. In fact, the most popular series on my blog is my Memoirs of a Teenage Author series. Honestly though, I didn’t start calling myself an actual author until after my first book, A Memoir of Love, was published.

Q:  What is the best advice you have been given?
“You can do better.” When I finished A Memoir of Mercy’s manuscript and gave it to my dad to read, he gave it back to me a couple weeks later with the exhortation, “You can do better.” So I dug back into my heart and redid some stuff. Sure enough, the finished product was much better than before. The potential was there, it just needed some tough love and encouragement to come out.

Q:  As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to marry someone that loved me a whole lot. And I wanted to have kids. Although I loved to write, becoming an author never really crossed my mind.

Q:  Hard/paperbacks or ebooks?
I like both for different reasons. Ebooks are cheaper, so I can buy more of them. It’s nice to sit outside with a paperback though, and it’s easier to quote and loan out that way.

Q:  What book are you reading now?
I just finished The Giver, and now I’m starting into The Postman. I love books that are unconventional and stir my creativity.
